Creating and Using Objects
1
Customizing the Insert Panel
The Insert panel is one of the most powerful of all Dreamweaver’s features—and it’s been made even
more so with the inclusion of the Favorites category. Unlike the other categories of the Insert panel,
the objects appearing on Favorites are easily defined by the user. If you’re willing to dig into the
XML files that define the Insert panel, you can even rearrange its contents, add new categories, and,
as noted earlier, include custom objects.
Specifying favorites
The menu structure in Dreamweaver reduces the overwhelming number of options found in the ear-
lier versions. However, the addition of menu groups, such as Media and Frames, means that often-
used objects may require more mouse clicks to access. The Favorites category provides a highly
customizable solution.
The Favorites category is composed entirely of user-selected objects. By default, Favorites is initially
empty; it’s up to you to add whatever objects you use most often. Any of the currently installed
objects can be placed in the Favorites category. You determine their order, and you can even separate
them into groups. The Favorites category can be reconfigured as many times as you like.
All changes to the Favorites category are handled within the Customize Favorite Objects dialog box,
as shown in Figure 1-2.
