8. TMAD and ALSA

If you don’t want to use PulseAudio as a sound server and instead want to connect to the underlying Linux sound architecture ALSA directly, you need to take a couple of things into account. First, using ALSA while PulseAudio is running might cause problems. But even more important, you need to find out the correct parameters for using ALSA, which is not always easy.

Disabling PulseAudio

To make sure PulseAudio is not running, in a terminal (press Ctrl+Alt+T to get one) enter the following:

pulseaudio --kill
