Abstract:

Large rupture strain (LRS) fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites are usually made of polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibres. They have a relatively low elastic modulus but a much larger rupture strain (usually greater than 5%) as compared to conventional FRP composites (i.e. carbon FRP, glass FRP and aramid FRP), and therefore provide a cheaper but more effective solution for the seismic retrofit of reinforced concrete (RC) columns.
