Repair of deteriorated bridge substructures using carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites

Abstract:

This chapter presents a case study in the evaluation and repair of a 10-year-old highway bridge with substructures undergoing moderate to severe premature concrete deterioration and expansion due to alkali-silica reaction (ASR). Detailed visual observations of distressed conditions, structural analysis, and results of laboratory materials testing are presented as contributors to the development of a repair course of action.
