8.1 Introduction
Present day electronics is becoming more complex day by day and, therefore, any electronic gadget is vulnerable to electromagnetic interference. With the diminishing size of these components this issue becomes critical. Apart from research being carried out on electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials based on composites, due to their advantages such as being lightweight, less corrosive, etc., transparent and flexible EMI shielding materials are becoming an area of importance. It is crucial in several areas to have EMI shielding through optically transparent systems such as windows, touch screens, displays, etc. This is more challenging since apart from EMI shielding, there is a requirement of the material to have optical transparency and sometimes flexibility also.
Transparent conductive films are used for EMI shielding on displays and touch screens to reduce radiofrequency interference (RFI). Today, indium tin oxide (ITO) is one of the most commonly used materials but it suffers from two drawbacks, namely, cost‐intensive and lack of flexibility. There are reports discussing the increase in the price of indium day by day. This has forced researchers to reconsider this material for such applications. In addition, ITO is a brittle ...
