APPENDIX A

TUTORIAL FOR THE EFFECTIVE USE OF MATLAB

A.1. INTRODUCTION

This appendix presents the information necessary for the effective use of MATLAB which is used throughout this book. An important feature of this book is that most of the solutions shown in this book were generated using the commercially available software package called MATLAB which is available from the MathWorks, Inc. The Advanced Modern Control System Theory and Design (AMCSTD) Toolbox, which complements this book, and the M-files that were used to develop these solutions can be retrieved free from The Mathworks, Inc. anonymous FTP server at ftp://ftp.mathworks.com/pub/books/advshinners. These M-files are the AMCSTD Toolbox and were used to develop the graphical figures and problem solutions in this book. In this manner, the user of this book has available a toolbox of features/utilities created to enhance The Mathworks' Control System Toolbox, and the computer-generated solutions to the problems in this book. The Modern Control System Theory and Design Toolbox runs equally well with The Student Edition of MATLAB (authored by The Mathworks, Inc., and published by Prentice-Hall, Englewood Cliffs, NJ), as well as with or without the professional versions of MATLAB (with or without The MathWorks' Control System, Simulink, Nonlinear, and the Symbolic Toolboxes).
