The Comprehensive Perl Archive Network (CPAN) is a repository of Perl modules (among other Perl "things") that developers throughout the world have created. Most of the code provided on CPAN is free for any programmer’s use.

Keep in mind that there is no organization that standardizes these modules. Some of the modules are very robust, but some are still in development. Before you use a module, it is best to at least look at the POD documentation, if not the code itself.
