This appendix contains the function prototypes for the standard ISO C, POSIX, and UNIX System functions described in the text. Often, we want to see only the arguments to a function (“Which argument is the file pointer for fgets
?”) or only the return value (“Does sprintf
return a pointer or a count?”). These prototypes also show which headers need to be included to obtain the definitions of any special constants and to obtain the ISO C function prototype to help detect any compile-time errors.
