Dettol

The Dettol brand has had a long history in the Indian context. It may be interesting to mention the history of Dettol (antiseptic solution) before Dettol soap is discussed. Dettol antiseptic solution was a diluted version of a certain chemical compound. It was introduced during the 1930s in India along with the launch of the brand in the United Kingdom (Pinto, 2015a). Dettol was initially used by doctors to clean up cuts and wounds. Over a period of time, consumers (especially patients visiting doctors) became familiar with the brand after having noticed it at their doctor’s clinic or hospital.
