Chapter 7Our Analytic Scrum Framework

The analytic team uses Scrum as the primary methodology for managing the flow of work throughout their large analytic projects. Scrum work is organized into fixed-duration iterations or cycles called sprints. Within a sprint, there are several key milestone activities related to planning, execution, reviews, and retrospectives. This section provides an overview of each phase within our Scrum framework (see Figure 7.1).

Getting Started

The analytic team receives good news. Rebecca meets with the team. “The customer retention project was approved by the steering committee. We have permission to go forward with the project. Since this is a high priority, we're going to assign two modelers from our team, an ETL developer, and a couple of dedicated business data subject matter experts full-time to the project. Since the output of this project may result in changes to our customer relationship management application, I'm going to coordinate with IT for additional support and guidance. We'll include them in our kickoff meeting so that they're aware of the work that the team will be doing.”
