Phase 2: Gather Data

Why gather data? After all, we’re only talking about a short period of time. Everyone will remember, right? Ummm, no. Following are the four big reasons to gather data before you start generating ideas on what to do differently:

  • Even when people are all present, even for a short period of time, they don’t see everything. Further, different people can have wildly different perspectives on the same event.

  • When someone misses just one day in a weeklong timebox, they’ve already missed 20% of the events and interactions.

  • When all or part of the team is working remotely, their contexts aren’t the same.

  • You can’t make headway on some topics without data. Imagine trying to have a conversation about household spending without looking ...
