Temperature Reading
Description and Rationale
A Temperature Reading offers a chance to check on “where we are” in this present moment. It’s useful when you’d like to discover a focus topic that fits the moment. Adapted from the work of Virginia Satir, this activity offers a practical way to process what is happening for the group (A Resource Handbook for Satir Concepts [Sch90]). A Temperature Reading allows people to include aspects of group life that are usually ignored: appreciations, puzzles, and hopes and wishes.
Time Needed
10–30 minutes, depending on the size of the group and their experience with this activity.
