Karen Michaels had come over to where Maria was standing. Now we’re cake buddies? thought Maria.
“Good cake,” she confirmed. “So who is it this time?”
They were at a going away party for one of Dave Marx’s people. It seemed like almost every Friday they would gather in a conference room somewhere in the building to celebrate someone’s retirement. Maria had begun to wonder why they never celebrated anyone’s contributions to the company until their last day on the job.
