Chapter 26
Coordinating Systems of Equations and Graphing
IN THIS CHAPTER
Creating and analyzing solutions of systems of equations
Choosing a method to solve systems
Taking on non-linear systems
Tackling systems of three equations
A system of equations consists of two or more equations representing functions or other curves. A system of equations has a solution or solutions if they share variable values that make their statements true. Solutions such as these are important in business, when you want to know the break-even point and have income and cost functions. If you’re in a control tower, you want to know where the plane and the radar should intersect. There are all sorts of wonderful applications.
In this chapter, you’ll see several options for recognizing these common solutions and for finding them yourself — either with a graph or some algebra, or just some really good guessing.
Defining Solutions of Systems of Equations
The solution or solutions of a system of equations can be represented by the points they share on a graph or the variables that make their statements true. ...
