6Positive and Negative Numbers
We're going to use a lot of what you learned in Chapter 2, “Essential Arithmetic,” and some of Chapter 5, “Mental Math,” during this chapter. There won't be any new operations, but there will be some new rules, because we'll be introducing some new numbers. Sometimes you encounter numbers that need to carry information not just about how much or how many, but also about direction. Did your favorite football team gain or lose yards? Did your weight go up or down? Did you just put $100 in your bank account or did you take $100 out?
