What if a UFO landed one night on a beach, abducted a few midnight swimmers, and then took off? Suppose it left an imprint in the sand that measured 1,000 feet around. Just how big, then, was that UFO? If UFO had a circular base that measured 1,000 feet around, how wide was it?

In this chapter, we'll look at some of the same ideas as we did in the last chapter: measuring around the outside edge of a figure and measuring the area, or space inside the figure. This time, however, we'll be focused on circles, not rectangles or triangles. Circles don't have bases or heights or sides.
