Chapter 10

Everyone Has Excuses

We all make excuses about what’s holding us back from chasing our dreams:

“I’m not a twenty-something. I can’t just throw caution to the wind.”
“I’ve got a mortgage to pay, kids to feed, and too many responsibilities.”
“I’m too young to do anything of meaning.”
“I don’t live in a thriving area, and I can’t move.”

Excuses are a dime a dozen, and most likely there is some merit to each of them.

All people who achieve greatness have doubts. At some point they made excuses, but the difference is that they stopped making them and decided to take action to reach their goals.

If you just thought something along the lines of, “I don’t know if I can,” that’s the normal reaction.

The key lesson that you must learn is that although making excuses may be human nature, people who live their dream life learn to stop making them. An excuse is nothing more than a self-imposed roadblock.

Life is going to put up enough challenges for you; you don’t need to add any more into the mix. They serve no purpose. Buckle down and embrace that it’s natural to be concerned and have self-doubt but remember that making excuses helps no one.
