Chapter 14. Application Programming Overview

This chapter provides an overview of IMS-managed application programs that run in IMS-dependent regions.

IMS defines an application programming model to be used for accessing IMS services based on the type of dependent region runtime environment. A program specification block (PSB) establishes the interface from the application program to IMS services and the IMS-managed resources the application program is authorized to access. A program communication block (PCB) is the connectivity to an IMS-managed resource. The PSB consists of one or more PCBs that are provided to the application program.
