Chapter 16
LTE Testing with TTCN-31
In this chapter we will consider Long Term Evolution (LTE)2 testing using TTCN-3. Associated with this book is a website which contains a working TTCN-3 tool and a version of the LTE test suite developed by ETSI for 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP).3 The web site URL is: www.wiley.com/go/willcock_TTCN-3_2e. Anyone wishing to access the material will need to complete a registration form online by following the link. Once the submitted registration form has been approved, you will receive a password for this site to enable the material to be downloaded.
16.1 LTE Description
LTE [1] is the latest standardized mobile telecommunications system which follows on from Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) [48]. In comparison to earlier technologies LTE offers higher data transfer speeds and lower latency for the user. LTE has been developed by the 3GPP and the first complete version of the standards were released in 2008 (release 8), with the first commercial systems being rolled out during 2010. As part of this standardisation effort a test suite has been developed to check the conformance of LTE mobile devices (UEs) to the standards. It is this test suite which we will be considering in this chapter.
LTE offers a more efficient air interface and also introduces a new flatter architecture. The overall LTE architecture, including the Radio Access Network (RAN) and core part is shown in Figure 16.1. The interface between RAN and Core ...
