Power supplies
It is undoubtedly true to say that most electronic
equipment is powered during normal operation
from a supply of mains electricity, provided by the
local or national public supply utility. However,
there is a small but significant demand for the
operation of equipment from battery supplies, for
a number of different reasons. The most obvious is
portability, a desirable feature of items as diverse
as a cheap 'tranny' portable and a sophisticated
frequency hopping radio transceiver used in
modern military exercises (war games) and
