4 The growth of analog
As we saw in the previous chapter, the birth of analog was dominated by just eight companies in the USA, UK, and Japan, with histories in the field all spanning 20 years or less. But there were many other participants in the growth of analog, some offering innovative design features in very short production runs, others bringing well-established technology to a wider market or a new level of affordability, and these companies spanned the whole world, from the UK, USA and Japan to Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy, Russia and even China.
