The purposes of this chapter are to go into more detail about structure and procedures for data collection. We provide a quick overview of interfaces and download procedures for one of the major databases. The chapter also describes how the data is typically structured, describing some of the major fields you can find in the record. This discussion of the data and its structure becomes the basis for Chapter 5 where we discuss parsing the data. In the end, the chapter also explains the data that is used throughout our examples.
