12. Meaningful Use and the Role of Analytics: Complying with Regulatory Imperatives
The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) provisions in the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) created a tremendous opportunity for physicians, hospitals, and health systems to adopt electronic health record (EHR) systems. The legislation includes significant financial incentives designed to accelerate EHR use and ultimately reduce healthcare costs by improving quality, safety, and efficiency.
