jEdit is a complete source code editor, written entirely in Java. It’s primarily for developing Java, although it’s fair to say that jEdit isn’t restricted to only Java development. Although jEdit doesn’t claim to be an IDE, its very powerful Plugin Manager makes adding features to jEdit very easy.

The open-source community has been busy building a wealth of downloadable plug-ins for this editor. To that end, there are very few tasks that haven’t been covered, including one that enables you to have a chat window within your editor!
