It was late May 2020, a time when people of every color were defying the Covid-19 pandemic to take to the streets to show their outrage. On Memorial Day, May 25, in Minneapolis, seventeen-year-old Darnella Frazier used her smartphone to capture a full video of police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on George Floyd’s neck for nine minutes, until Floyd died, after he’d been stopped on suspicion of using a counterfeit $20 bill to buy cigarettes. It was only the latest in thousands of similar incidents throughout history—but this time change was brewing, even in the corporate world.
