Here we look at “at-will” employment and the extent to which it results in asymmetric relations between employer and employed. The unfairness of non-compete agreements is examined.

“Your Employment is at Will”

In the US, the vast majority of non-union employees in the private sector work “at will.” The concept is easily understood by examining the relevant part of a typical employment contract. The Society for Human Resource Management helpfully provides policy templates or samples for employers; under “At Will: Policy Statement” we find:
