PROJECT 11 HIDDEN ANIMALS

As a child, I was very inspired by the colorful and mysterious paintings of Henri Rousseau. This French artist spent his life painting exotic jungles, wild animals, and mysterious countries—despite never having actually left France. Instead, he used his vivid and beautiful imagination. In his jungle paintings, you can find animals hiding between the plants. Snakes, wild cats, and monkeys disappear in the shadows cast by wide leaves and colorful flowers. Rousseau’s paintings are done in a naïve style without any sense of perspective. On the contrary, each scene seems to be built much like a stage set—layers of decor between which characters pass.
