Database File Security

Physical security for an Apache Derby database is controlled through the operating system and the database startup parameters. Most operating systems will allow a form of control over the underlying files in the Apache Derby database. An Apache Derby database places all of the data and control information within a directory structure in the underlying file system. Control to the file system is then established through operating system commands, so that only specific applications or users can access the data. For instance, in a Windows XP environment, the following steps will allow you to set specific file privileges on a directory.

1.
In any Explorer window, click Tools and then File Options.
2.
Click the View tab.
