Installing the DB2 Runtime Client
ODBC, CLI, Perl, PHP, and Python applications all communicate with the Apache Derby Network Server through DRDA. Fortunately, the DB2 Runtime Client provides the runtime translation of CLI or ODBC calls to the DRDA protocol, which means that you must install the DB2 Runtime Client on the system from which you want to run your ODBC, CLI, Perl, PHP, or Python application. The DB2 Runtime Client is available for not only Linux and Windows operating systems running on 32-bit AMD and Intel architectures, but also for AIX, Solaris, and HP-UX operating systems, as well as for Linux running on x86-64, OpenPOWER, pSeries, iSeries, and the zSeries hardware architectures.
