Installing the DB2 Runtime Client

ODBC, CLI, Perl, PHP, and Python applications all communicate with the Apache Derby Network Server through DRDA. Fortunately, the DB2 Runtime Client provides the runtime translation of CLI or ODBC calls to the DRDA protocol, which means that you must install the DB2 Runtime Client on the system from which you want to run your ODBC, CLI, Perl, PHP, or Python application.
