We briefly covered a wide variety of the issues that surround taking a Solr configuration that works in a development environment and getting it ready for the rigors of a production environment. Solr's modular nature and stripped down focus on search allows it to be compatible with a broad variety of deployment platforms. Solr offers a wealth of monitoring options, from log files, to HTTP request logs, to JMX options. Nonetheless, for a really robust solution, you must define what the key performance metrics are that concern you, and then implement automated solutions for tracking them.
