Determining the System Release with the Retrieve Product Information API, QSZRTVPR

If you develop applications for multiple systems that might be on different release levels of the operating system, you’ll want to know what release level your application is currently running on. As you might expect, there’s an API for that: Retrieve Product Information (QSZRTVPR). Through the use of special values, this API allows you to easily determine the release level of the operating system, even if IBM decides in the future to change product IDs such the 5722-SS1 product ID currently used for i5/OS.
