I don’t know about you, but I don’t get much mail these days that isn’t advertising. I won’t lie … some days I wish good old-fashioned snail mail was still the main way to correspond. I kind of miss the anticipation (excitement, even?) of walking to the mailbox to retrieve the mail and not knowing what to expect. A letter from a friend? That thing-a-ma-bob I ordered weeks ago? The always-frightful unexpected bill? And after the mail was delivered, I didn’t have to worry about anything new popping up until roughly 24 hours later, so I had time to enjoy (or perhaps recover from) what came today.
Those times are long gone, and it’s probably for the best. Electron mail, a.k.a. email, has been all the rage for a while now, and it certainly has its advantages. The ability to instantly get in touch with someone is not a luxury I’m willing to part with, even for the halcyon days of snail mail.
