Appendix A. Common Ports and Assigned Applications
This appendix provides a quick reference that highlights many of the port numbers commonly used by applications in a network environment. This helps you identify what applications are using the network, thereby allowing you to configure acceleration services, quality of service (QoS), security, or monitoring. You can then optimize, control, or generate reports about how applications are utilizing your network.
The port numbers are divided into three ranges:
• Well-known ports: The ports from 0 through 1023.
• Registered ports: The ports from 1024 through 49151.
• Dynamic and/or private ports: The ports from 49152 through 65535. The range for assigned ports managed by the IANA is 0 through 1023. ...
