While I acknowledge the invaluable assistance I’ve received in my professional life at institutions such as Kroll Associates, where so many talented individuals took the time and care to educate me on the uses and abuses of computer-based systems, and in my academic life at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where I am still learning how to think and express myself carefully and intelligently, I would likely not have written more than a word or two without the encouragement of Ed Stone, a man whose guidance is gentle and practical.
