Eugene R. Weiner, PhD, is professor emeritus of chemistry at the University of

Denver, Colorado. He was a professor of chemistry at the University of Denver from

1965 to 1995. From 1967 to 1992, he worked with the U.S. Geological Survey, Water

Resources Division in Denver as a consultant and has consulted on environmental

issues for many other private, state, and federal entities. He served as a member of

the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission from 1975 to 1981 and was chair-

man of the Standards and Classication Committee, responsible for developing reg-
