Introduction to Model Building
In the previous chapters, we discussed simple and multiple regression where we provided detailed analysis of these techniques including the analysis and interpretation of computer results. In both the simple and multiple regression models, the relationship among the variables is linear. In this chapter we provide an introduction to model building and nonlinear regression models. By model building, we mean selecting the model that will provide a good fit to a set of data, and the one that will provide a good estimate of the response or the dependent variable y that is related to independent variables or factors x1, x2, ..., xn.
