Sonar Systems
Abstract
This chapter discusses the applications of sonar systems. It provides a detailed examination of sonar system types including transducer materials, projectors and hydrophones, single-element transducer geometries, and transducer arrays. It also discusses single-beam echo sounders, multibeam echo sounders, and side-scan and synthetic aperture sonars. In addition, the chapter provides an overview of other sonar types, a brief discussion on transducer calibration, and example calculations on sonar types using the sonar equation. It concludes with a limited series of sonar design calculations.
