13. Predictive Engineering: Continuous and Discrete Transfer Functions

The critical parameter flow-down provides insight into what affects each critical parameter. Predictive engineering is related to an essential aspect of engineering—developing an equation or a predictive model or performing experiments to understand and represent how the critical parameter is affected.

Figures 13.1 and 13.2 show what might be considered a rather daunting flowchart. They provide guidelines for navigating through the maze of potential methods to develop transfer functions, which mathematically represent the relationships between the critical parameters and the subordinate y’s, x’s, and n’s that affect them:
