Back in the 1950s, when stars like Marlon Brando, James Dean, and Elvis Presley appeared onstage or on-screen in sneakers, fans took note of their cool, casual style—but the link between pop culture and shoe brands was minimal. Since the 1980s and the launch of custom, however, the dance between street fashion and showbiz, high fashion and sneaker design, has taken off—one sector influencing the other, round and round, with the creativity of custom artisans and designers getting more colorful every day.
