DEMONSTRATION: Stephanie Dalton Cowan
embellishing the digital surface
Through digital means, a series of visual elements can be easily taken out of their ordinary context and altered, resized, colorized, textured and recomposed to create a new, more metaphorical arrangement. When the digital image is output, adhered to a textured substrate and layered with heavy gel medium, the work begins to transform. In this demonstration, artist Stephanie Dalton Cowan uses vintage photographs, aged textures, digital manipulation, ink-jet printing, distressing, relief texturing, collage, impasto painting and oil stick rubbing to create a densely layered, fresco-like painting.
