Abstract
Cooperative communication in 5G networks is one of the most rapidly developing areas of study, and it is expected to be a crucial enabling technology for future spectrum efficiency in 5G networks. One of the most challenging tasks for cognitive radio systems is to detect the presence of primary (licensed) users over a broad spectrum at a specific time and in a specific area. The use of cooperative spectrum sensing in cognitive radio systems to improve the efficiency of detecting primary users is discussed in this book chapter. We will define spectrum sensing for cognitive radios and suggest robust cooperative spectrum sensing techniques for a realistic cognitive radios application. In a cognitive wireless relay network, we also look at mutual communications for spectrum sharing. We present a cognitive space-time-frequency coding technique that can opportunistically change its coding structure by adjusting to the complex spectrum environment in order to maximize spectrum opportunities. The concept of resource sharing among multiple nodes in a network is central ...
