This election’s promise of a fresh mandate for the next administration provides an opportunity for writing a new chapter in U.S. trade relations. Just as our foreign policy now addresses a new world order, our trade policy must do the same. While it may be politically expedient and provide narcissistic gratification to continue bashing Japan’s trade practices, it is not going to produce the desired results.
