action code A narrative device by which a resolution is produced through action, for example a shoot-out.

actuality Recordings of images and sounds of events made on location as they actually happen for inclusion in news reports or documentaries.

ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) A telephone network that turns an ordinary telephone copper wire into a high-speed connection for internet, broadcasting and video-on-demand services.

anchorage The fixing or limiting of a particular set of meanings to an image. One of the most common forms of anchorage is the caption underneath a photograph.
