Global positioning system radio occultation observations
Abstract
The global positioning system (GPS) radio occultation (RO) technique is an active limb-sounding space geodetic technique for measuring the atmosphere. The GPS RO technique has become an established approach for global atmospheric remote sensing with RO data routinely assimilated in operational numerical weather prediction (NWP) systems. This chapter provides select information about GPS RO measurements important to know for their effective assimilation in NWP systems and other applications.
