4.4. Content coupling

The fourth challenge is one of the most commonly cited problems with current CMSes: the degree to which content, presentation, context, and behavior are tied together. Per-device differentiation makes things even more convoluted.

For clarity, let me quickly define each of these:

  • Content: any text, images, video, decoration, or user-consumable elements that contribute to comprehension.[25] Basically, the elements of the communicated message.
  • Presentation: the spatial and temporal arrangement of elements of content and any wrapper elements required by the delivery medium.
