7.2. Integrated label use

This design pattern is related to content accessibility and rules-based presentation as discussed in Chapter 5, Hierarchy of Author Experience Needs.

7.2.1. The challenge

The technical documentation for your product refers to the user interface labels when describing functionality. Suppose, for whatever reason, that a label needs to be changed. The system and its documentation cannot be changed independently without causing confusion.

7.2.2. Why it matters

Consider a product with a visual interface and a set of documentation that describes that interface. Both depend on the micro-copy. This raises the question: who owns the micro-copy?
