What the Computer System Does

Cars first began using computers in the early 1980s. Initially, computers only controlled the ignition system, but over time they have taken over more and more operations. They now control the power to different devices, shift the transmission, and can parallel park and watch for other vehicles.

All of that control does come with a price. Because the newer cars rely on the computers for better mileage and emissions, computers are now an active part of the system. The newer your car, the more likely you are to be stranded if the computer fails. These are the main components that contribute to the computer system.
