Creating Shadows with Lights

In this lesson, light an animated film roll with colored spotlights so the film roll casts shadows as it moves across the background.

Overview

Since the layers in a 3D composite can be arranged in 3D space, lights can cast shadows from one layer onto another. To make a shadow follow a moving layer, target the light to the layer.

In this lesson:

  • Animate the position of a layer.

  • Add three spotlights to the composite so a layer casts shadows onto a background. Change the color of the spotlights.
