Chapter 2

Introducing Parametric Sketching

When creating 3D geometry using the Autodesk® Inventor® 2014 software, you must begin with a sketched feature. To have a sketched feature, you must have a 2D sketch. In this chapter you’ll use a majority of the tools that are available for creating the 2D sketches so critical to creating your designs in Inventor. You’ll also learn how to control this geometry beyond the basics, and we’ll briefly touch on 3D sketching, which can be used to extend the capabilities of 2D sketches.

  • Exploring the essential elements of a 2D sketch
  • Controlling a sketch
  • Using dimensional sketch constraints
  • Defining and placing sketches
