2.9    ENG.7 Software Integration Test

2.9.1    Purpose

The purpose of the software integration test process is to integrate the software units into larger assemblies, producing integrated software consistent with the software design and to test the interaction between the software items.

Software integration should be done in steps and be accompanied by tests. Tests complement the preceding unit tests. Stepwise integration helps, particularly in complex systems, to identify and remove defects as early as possible. This way the »progress of software integration« is secured and the functional growth remains manageable during integration.
